Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)
Flint Community Schools welcomes you and your child to join our esteemed Great Start Readiness (GSRP) Pre-K program. As advocates for early childhood education, we are delighted to offer a comprehensive full-day program, Monday through Thursday, specially crafted for students aged four (4) by September 1st.
Children who participate in a high-quality early childhood program in the year or two before kindergarten are more academically, socially, and emotionally prepared for school. Research shows that children who receive a high-quality preschool experience demonstrate significant developmental advantages compared to peers from similar backgrounds who do not. GSRP offers a rich, play-based curriculum grounded in developmentally appropriate practices, setting the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond. Through GSRP, children are given the support they need to thrive in school and life.
Flint Community Schools is thrilled to announce its participation in the PreK for All initiative, offering FREE PreK to families in our community. Starting in the fall of 2024, all four-year-olds in Michigan will be eligible for free, high-quality PreK education, provided in partnership with Genesee ISD.
What is PreK for All?
PreK for All is part of Governor Whitmer’s MI-Leap initiative, a statewide effort to expand access to early childhood education. This program builds on Michigan's successful Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) and the Great Start to Quality Program, both of which have a proven track record of narrowing achievement gaps and preparing children for long-term success. The mission is to ensure that every child in Michigan, regardless of their background or location, has access to free, full-time, high-quality PreK, with an emphasis on supporting families who need it most.
Research has consistently shown that attending a quality PreK program, such as those offered through GSRP, has a lasting positive impact on a child’s development and academic success. Children who attend PreK enter kindergarten better prepared and perform better throughout their education.
